History

1984 - MedTox Laboratories, Inc. was founded to provide clinical toxicology testing services to local and regional hospital laboratories. The lab quickly gained a reputation for offering high-quality testing, exceptional customer service, and a constantly expanding test menu. Offering over 30 years of experience, MedTox Laboratories has established itself as a nationally recognized leader in clinical toxicology.

1988 - The Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 mandated federal contractors to institute drug testing for their employees. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and subsequently the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), established very strict protocols and guidelines for laboratories and the testing process.

MedTox was among the first laboratories to be certified under NIDA/SAMHSA, expanding its services beyond clinical toxicology testing and into employment drug testing.

2007 - MedTox branded the ToxAssure® Testing Program utilizing LC/MS/MS instrumentation to accommodate the testing needs of providers who were monitoring drug usage in patients being treated with chronic opioid therapy. The test provides definitive results on a broad number of drugs to observe compliance or identify non-compliance in very complex prescription regimens. The ToxAssure test remains a cornerstone of the Labcorp MedWatch® Medical Drug Monitoring Program.

2012 - MedTox was acquired by Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (Labcorp), becoming one of its premier Specialty Testing Laboratories. MedTox processes more than 4 million samples annually and supports multiple clinical testing needs in the markets we serve.

2017 - MedTox optimizes drug testing procedures and reporting for Medication-assisted Treatment (MAT). This testing is designed to enhance Suboxone® prescribers’ ability to monitor the progress of opioid use disorder recovery.
